To Tauranga and beyond…
Securing the future of the sport continues to be a priority, and our new
strategic plan clearly defines the four key areas of focus
With 2025 being the first year of a new Olympic Cycle, and the
start of a new Tri NZ Strategic Cycle, this has provided us with an
opportunity to review and reshape our plans, in line with our four
strategic pathways:
• Growing the triathlon community
• Inspire through world class performances
• Enhance triathlon’s visibility
• Effective governance and financial sustainability.
With this focus, we have continued support initiatives in key areas
of the sport, while looking towards the future and how we ensure
that triathlon in New Zealand continues thriving.
These include:
• Continued support of the Strengthen and Adapt Regional Pilot
(alongside Sport New Zealand), with the addition of Tauranga
(Bay of Plenty) region, alongside our existing hubs in Wellington
and Christchurch. These hubs support our community outcomes
and drive outcomes in Junior and Youth Development, and
activities into schools.
• Continued support of Paratriathlon, with the ambitious aim
of qualifying a triathlete to represent New Zealand at the LA
Paralympic games in 2028.
• Bidding for and winning the right to host the World Triathlon
Championship Series final in 2028 – a coup that includes
a World Triathlon Cup in 2026 and a World Triathlon Series
Event in 2027. These events are to be hosted in Tauranga, with
$3million secured through the Major Events Fund and from the
Tauranga City Council and TECT
• Partnering with the NZOC on the development and support of
a Tri NZ Philanthropic plan to support the sport towards LA in
2028, and the 2032 games in Brisbane
None of this would be possible without the support of our
sponsors and partners, trust funders, and the generous support of
our patron, Garth Barfoot, who’s support for our sport is significant.
We have much to look forward to over the next three years, and
through effective delivery of our strategic plan, the future looks
bright.
